I Wonder
I wonder how you felt
The day I was born.
I hope I was everything you wished for
And more.
I wonder what you thought
The first day you dropped me off at school.
Were you joyful or sad
Or playing it cool?
I wonder what dreams you had for me.
Were they the same as mine?
To get married and have kids
Only to find out it wasn’t part of God’s design.
I wonder how you felt
The day you got the news.
Did you drop to your knees
And pray in the pew?
I wonder what you felt
During every treatment.
Were they painful and scary
Or were you at peace?
I wonder how you felt
The day you met Jesus.
I imagine it was a joyous day
Pain-free and full of sweetness.
I wonder what you’d be like
Today at seventy years of age.
How would you look
And how would you spend your days?
So many questions
I wish I would have asked.
Never getting the chance
Because time went by too fast.
